Confirmation Class

Confirmation, according to The Book of Common Prayer, “is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.”  In addition to being a public renewal of baptismal vows and rite of empowerment by the Holy Spirit, is also traditionally the manner in which adults coming from other traditions become members of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion.  This is true even if they have been previously confirmed in another church where Confirmation was not performed by a bishop in the Apostolic Succession of bishops that goes back to the apostles.

It is the normal practice in Episcopal churches regularly to offer Confirmation classes for adults in order to welcome adults into full membership in the church.  Such classes normally address the basics of the Gospel and a personal faith commitment to Jesus Christ, but also on The Book of Common Prayer, the Sacraments, and the distinct heritage of Anglican Christianity
